Livingston's Inc. is a fourth generation family owned corporation specializing in home furnishings retail sales and service. Founded in 1901 by William H. Livingston in Gloversville, N.Y., W.H. Livingston Furniture offered goods for the home that included furnitur, kitchen and parlor stoves, oil lamps, and various home accessories. Deliveries in this era were made by horse drawn wagon, and day-long delivery trips were common.
In 1938, a building lot was purchased at 347-355 South Main Street in Gloversville. It was to become the new home of Livingston's Furniture. The move greatly increased the amount of showroom display area. The building was meant to be the ideal display space for the latest styles in home furnishings at the time, utilizing hardwood floors and display-specific lighting to accentuate products.
Livingston's second retail outlet originated in Hudson Falls, N.Y. in 1959 under the supervision of William B. Livingston. Two years later Livingston's Quality Manor relocated to its current address at the corner of Dix Avenue and Quaker Road in the town of Queensbury. Under the direction of company president Laurence W. Livingston, and general manager Robert W. Whipple, the store underwent a major renovation and expansion in the mid 1990's. A grand opening was held in 1995, and showcased the many thousands of square feet added to the showroom floor, as well as the new look of the building and parking area. The renovated store is easy to find - just look for the pyramid-shaped roof over the West showroom entrance!
Today, Livingston's Inc. is a full service furniture and mattress retailer that is commited to providing a legitimate option to the "big box" furniture stores that have become common in recent years. With an updated inventory of today's best brands and styles of furniture and mattresses, pricing which is more than competitive, and services that many stores no longer offer (free delivery, set up, and removal). In January 2006, Livingston's Inc. was recognized by the Fulton County Chamber of Commerce & Industry as the 2005 Centennial Award recipient.
